This paper outlines the design and implementation of credit scoring policies based on Women’s World Banking’s experiences working with network members in the Dominican Republic and Colombia. It also presents factors to consider when introducing credit scoring including cost, staff training, scoring policies, data collection and reporting.

While credit scoring complements and does not replace loan officers’ evaluations, it can provide additional information to help institutions better understand their clients’ risks and introduce policies to mitigate those risks.
